DLA Piper is currently seeking a Research Services Manager for the New York Office. The Research Services Manager will be a member of the national research organization. Key roles and responsibilities will include:

- Manage all research services, resources, and training for designated practice groups and offices.

- Assure participation of staff in supporting local and national requests for research support including complex research, online research, fact checking and document retrieval.

- Respond to attorney and support staff resource/research needs and questions.

- Work on business development and competitive intelligence research projects to provide lawyers and senior management with information about client, prospective client and competitor's plans and activities.

- Address administrative issues presented by Library staff and administrative departments; promote strong working relationship with colleagues in other offices and departments.

- Assure that administrative functions including budgeting, acquisitions, collection development, facilities planning, status reports, and records conform to national standards and practices.

- Participate in developing, promoting, and attaining the Department's strategic goals.

- Identify opportunities for staff cross training, professional development, and continuing education. Train library staff on processes and tasks within the library; plan and delegate projects for library staff.

- Develop and promote research and resource training opportunities for attorneys and staff; promote awareness of new legal trends, issues, and resources/materials for the various practice groups.

- Collect workload statistics and provide reports as designated by the Research Services & Libraries Management team.

- Provides consistent direction and leadership to staff and assignments. Hires, coaches, develops and manages staff. Conducts performance management evaluations and reviews

Six (6) to eight (8) years of library experience with at least three (3) years in a lead or management position is required. Law firm library management, legal and business research experience is strongly preferred. An MLS, MLIS or JD is required (equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted in lieu of degree requirement).

Requires expert knowledge of online legal research services, including Westlaw and similar products. Expert knowledge of print and online research methods and sources is required. Must possess functional knowledge of, or ability to learn Dialog, Bloomberg Law, Court link, Westlaw Business, D&B and other standard business research applications and services. Must have the ability to conceive and implement innovative solutions and processes for the Research Services & Libraries Department on both a local and national level.? Flexibility for some travel is required.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are required to interact with attorneys and staff on a daily basis. Ability to manage a variety of projects and initiatives simultaneously. Enjoys handling new challenges in a deadline driven environment. Ability to work calmly and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
