?
Community Forklift then offers these items to the public at very low cost in their huge thrift store, and distributes free materials to civic groups and families in need? (they were able to provide over $48,000 in free materials in 2012). Parents at Bancroft Elementary turned vintage bathtubs into container gardens for each grade, and volunteers at Wangari Gardens in Ward 5 built colorful fencing out of old pallets. Hyattsville resident Leah Wolf reported, ?For his Eagle Scout service project, my son needed donations to refurbish a run-down school playground.? It was eye-opening to find enthusiastic support at Community Forklift and local businesses, not the big box stores.?

Nancy Meyer, CEO of Community Forklift, says, ?Every spring, we hold a Spring Soiree and Sale to kick off the garden season and raise funds for our work. We are thrilled that American Plant Nursery and Landscaping and John Shorb Landscaping will be collecting items for our Soiree this year. These collections will make it easy for folks in Northwest DC and Montgomery County to donate, and local community gardeners, teachers, and other folks on a budget will be so grateful for the supplies.?

?

?Community Forklift reduces construction waste and demand for natural resources, creates local green jobs, and makes home improvement and repair more affordable for everyone.?As an environmentally-responsible company, we are excited to help,? says Brett Shorb, the owner of American Plant; ?While our customers stock up for the spring season, we want to make it convenient for them to give their old items to this great organization. To encourage participation, we will offer 10% off to anyone who donates at the collection events.?
