Congratulations are in order for one special member of the WWE Universe! WWE Studios has announced Mason A. Norman ? a passionate WWE fan ? has received a part in their upcoming film "The Marine: Homefront" with The Miz.
Norman, 23, of Highland Falls, N.Y., a sergeant in the United States Army Reserve, auditioned for the role during an open casting call at WrestleMania Axxess during WrestleMania XXVIII Week in Miami.
"The Thursday before Wrestlemania XXVIII, I read online about the auditions," Norman told WWE.com in an email interview. "I knew then that it was something I would have to try out for. It was like a golden opportunity."
"I was practicing in my bathroom mirror and just trying to mentally prepare myself for it. When I got to Axxess and saw 'The Marine: Homefront' station, I took a deep breath, got in line and said to myself, 'It?s now or never!' " (WATCH: MASON'S AUDITION)
After the audition, Norman wasn?t extremely confident he would get the part, but a few weeks later he was contacted by a representative of WWE Studios requesting a follow-up interview. Instead, he was told that he had been selected for the role. He said "words can?t explain" what he felt when he heard the good news from WWE Studios via a Skype call with The Miz.
"To quote 'Iron' Mike Tyson during his WWE Hall of Fame speech, 'Gratitude is what I?m trying to convey!' " Norman said.
?Anyone who knows me knows I love WWE. And to think that WWE even knows I exist is utterly amazing. I felt like when I was a kid and woke up Christmas morning and unwrapped 'WWE No Mercy' for the Nintendo 64. I felt like when I was 9 years old and attended my first WWE live event. More than anything, I felt blessed."
He first shared the news with a very important woman in his life ? his mother, who raised him as a single parent. She was on speakerphone during The Miz's call.
"She busted her butt and bent over backward to make sure I could grow up on the right path," Norman said. "My greatest motivation in life is to make her proud. Whether it?s my military career, completing college or any obstacle I face, making her smile is what drives me."
While Norman?s only acting credits include starring in his high school?s spring play, he said he can accomplish anything he devotes himself to ? even the part he?ll film with The Miz in WWE Studios? "The Marine: Homefront."
